JAM File Manager (1.1) ********************** NOTICE ****** If you're in Notepad, select Word Wrap. WHAT IT DOES ************ This program was written to help organise your JAM files. It lets you assign any one of the original game JAMs to any team by copying files etc. It also lets you 'add in' other JAM files that you may have created or downloaded, and assign these to any team also. The program gets the original files from the GP2 CD. It also can use Trevor Kellaway's GP2JAM to convert JAMs to BMPs, back again, and also convert JAMs to different teams. This may be useful as each JAM file has the team hard coded into it, and so if it is attempted to use a Williams JAM in place of a Benetton one, GP2 will not let it. WHAT IT NEEDS ************* This program requires Windows 3.1 or higher to run. You need the VB3 runtime file, VBRUN300.dll, available in the MSBASIC forum (Lib1), and hopefully, that's it. Files included (4): JAMFILE.EXE JAMFILE.TXT (this file) CMDIALOG.VBX (put in windows\system or the like) INI.VBX (put in windows\system or the like) GP2JAM is a program written by Trevor Kellaway, and is available in Lib 6 of SPRTSIMS or from http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/tkellaway/gp2jam.zip This program CAN be used without it. INSTRUCTIONS ************ You will be required to give the location of your own GP2.EXE file (or the like for non-english versions), and the location of INSTALL.EXE on your GP2 CD. Also, if you want to use GP2JAM to convert files via this program, you can specify the location of GP2JAM.exe, by selecting 'Set GP2JAM Location' from the 'Program Options' menu. If the location is known, this option will be ticked. After this, you're ready to go. The program can be used as a JAM file manager, or as a GP2JAM shell. Choose this from the'JAM Files' menu. You'll see a lot of stuff on the screen. The numbers and team name on the left are the car numbers of the default team for that position (eg Williams is the first team, and has drivers 0 and 2). This is for reference to performance only, for when allocating this slot to a new JAM. There are 14 dropdown listboxes to the right of this stuff (we'll call these 'team listboxes'), and this is where you choose the JAM to allocate to the team position. On first loading this will have 14 entries (for every listbox) of the 1994 teams ("(Original)" indicates original JAM file). Entries which are no the default 1994 original car are displayed in a different colour. To add other JAM files to these lists, look to the right to the 'Custom JAM Files' frame. You should see a white panel, which is a blank list area. To add a JAM file, click 'Add JAM File', and select the file. You will than have to give a description for the file of no more than 25 characters. Once loaded, this description will appear in the custom JAMs list. It will now also be a possible selection in the team listboxes. You can repeat this process for as many JAMs as you like. The details of these will be stored in the INI file (editing this is not recommended). To view the JAM file associated with a description, select the description in the custom JAMs list and click 'View JAM File', or double-click on the description. This will bring up a form displaying the JAM file. NOTE that this option is only available if you have GP2JAM. While viewing, it is possible to view the car at normal or double size. To edit a JAM file description, select the description in the custom JAMs list and click 'Edit Description'. The same 25 char limit applies here. To remove a custom JAM, select the desciption of the JAM you want to remove, and click 'Remove JAM File'. You will be asked for confirmation. If this JAM is selected in any of the team listboxes, that entry will now default to the 1994 original JAM file. To search the Custom JAM descriptions, click 'Search JAMs' and enter the text to look for. This will find the first instance (if any). To look again, click 'Next'. The search is not case-sensitive. *** SCARY BIT *** To update the changes, click 'Update JAMs'. This should copy all the relevant file to the proper locations. There is a progress indicator on the screen (black, top-left-ish). If the operation was a success, you will be informed. To use GP2JAM, pull down the 'GP2JAM Operations' menu, and choose what you want to do. To convert a JAM to a BMP, you will be asked to select the JAM, and then give the BMP filename to convert to. You can cancel the operation at either point. The program will ask if you want to open this BMP with your appointed BMP editor. To appoint a BMP editor, click 'Set BMP Editor Location' in the 'Program Options' menu, and locate the EXE of the editor. To convert a BMP to a JAM, you will be asked to select the BMP, and then choose which team to save the JAM as, and then give the new JAM filename. You can cancel the operation at any point. You can also see the BMP file that you are converting by selecting 'View Car File' when choosing a team. You will also be asked if you want to load this JAM as a custom JAM. To change the team of a JAM file, you will be asked for the name of the file to convert, and then choose which team to save the JAM as, and then give the new JAM filename. You can also see the JAM file that you are converting by selecting 'View Car File' when choosing the new team. You can cancel the operation at any point. You will also be asked if you want to load this JAM as a custom JAM. As the program runs GP2JAM through a DOS box, there is an option of how this is displayed, minimised, normal or maximised. Choose this in the 'Program Options' menu. Another top feature in this stylist program is File Association. If you associate the JAM file extension within Windows (3.1 or 95) with the program, you can then double click on the files in the explorer or file manager, and the program will convert it to a BMP and then display it for you. NOTE That when GP2JAM is run by the program, you have to wait for this to finish, before clicking the 'OK' button, otherwise BAD things might happen. I don't know what, as I've been too scared to try.
